I am a PhD candidate in the Writing, Rhetoric, and Technical Communication program at the University of Memphis, where I currently teach courses in Engineering Communications and First-Year Writing. As a writing instructor, my goal is to create a respectful and engaging space for all students to learn as we work together to create texts for a range of purposes.
My research interests include the rhetoric of health and medicine, digital rhetorics, and social justice/activism in technical communication. These interests have arisen out of my professional experiences as a technical communicator and my personal experiences as a patient living with a chronic illness. Specifically, I study how patients with rare illnesses write collaboratively to advocate for themselves and their illnesses in both healthcare settings and within their communities. An important goal of my research is using feminist and community-engaged methods to work closely with patient communities to co-produce knowledge that is meaningful, useful, and accessible to patients.
